Kmart lifts their Social Media Index by over 23 Percent

Posted by Mike Strutton in Social TechnologyInternet AdvertisingIndustry News

You may have recently heard about Kmart's $500 shopping spree giveaway. If not, here's the scoop. Kmart has given six bloggers a $500 gift card to shop and then write a blog post about their experience. In turn they are also giving away another six $500 gift cards to participants who comment on the blog posts or post about the event on Twitter.

The contest started on December 2nd and runs through the 16th. Here's the a list of bloggers participating in the first round.

I've been tracking Kmart since the end of October via the Vitrue SMI. So this news offered a great opportunity to demonstrate a campaign's effect on their Social Media Index. Take a look at the following chart - Kmart has jumped over 23% since the promotion launched.

We also looked at the competitive landscape, intentionally excluding some of the largest players for reasons of showing a comparative scale. Kmart's Social Share of Voice has risen above JCPenney and further justifies the value of their campaign.

Since the contest is in its infancy we anticipate this data to change. I'll check back on this story and report further details as warrant. Questions? Thoughts? Leave a comment below and join the conversation.
